FEATURE WALLS

Office staff were excited today to get a glimpse of the interior work in progress in the Wheel Addition courtesy of our Community Manager's camera.   The heating system is in place, electrical has been roughed in, all the windows have been installed and the drywallers are now sanding the walls for their primer coat.

However, the most dramatic part of this new addition is the beautiful stacked interior stone interior wall which is breathtaking!   This stone feature wall is on the interior connection between the old and new buildings and on an entrance wall of the new addition ~ a great first impression from the new doorway and ramp.   The exterior is being clad in a beautiful cement board and will feature panels of the same stone.

    Very nice!.....
This interior stone work looks Great!! It will be exciting to see more as the addition moves closer to its' completion.

Sandycove should put up a little "virtual tour" on our website....a few different pics of the various stages of completion.....now that would be rather interesting.

We are truly looking forward to the completion!

It would be nice if Sandycove and the Wheel Committee has a "Grand Opening / Ribbon Cutting / Open House" on one Saturday to bring residents together for that initial "Sneak Peek"......just a thought :-)

  2. Great suggestion we will try to post photos as the work goes along. I am sure there will be a special opening of the addition once all work is complete. The original Wheel building will also have a new exterior look and a few transitional changes inside.

    Stay posted!

  3. The naw addition will be lovely to look at, but the original recreation (shuffle/pool-snooker-darts-ping pong) area will still be unavailable to handicaped & residents who have difficulty with the stairs, a resident fell at the base of the stairs last month & dislocated 2 fingers, it would be foreward thinking at this construction time to make this area accesable through the **new wheel** ALL residents should have this access.

  4. Hi Hayley and Stacey,

Our family was one of the pioneers of Sandy Cove Acres. We moved into 32 Locust Hill Drive in 1971. My name is James. My parents have since passed on. I currently live in Nova Scotia, and my sister lives in Greece.

Before moving into SCA, we owned Maple Lane Farm, less than 1km away, on what was then RR#11. It was hard to miss or forget, as ours was the only goat farm for miles around.

We look back on those days with great fondness and nostalgia. Looking over the SCA site, we're thrilled to see that the community not only still going, but thriving and growing.

I was wondering if I you may happen to know if any of the "originals" who moved in between 1971 - '72 are still there (especially the Hollands or the Bremners)? If yes, perhaps they may remember us and would like to contact us?

At the time, the age limit for youth moving into the community was 16. I was one of the "brat pack"...one of only a handful of youth that actually resided there. :-)

My sister Linda and I would love to hear from you, or anyone else who would like to establish contact. If you want to send us a Skype invite, my username is: jdr1954. Thank you and hope to hear from you.

Sandycove Acres is continuously addressing the accessibility needs of all facilities and endeavours to provide the best options possible on a case to case basis.

    Thank you for your input.

  6. The Hub is still not accessible to the upstairs.......I have great trouble going up and down so I choose not to attend any events there. Sad that this is the way it is in an "over 55 Adult Community".......also can't go to anything downstairs at the Wheel......God help us if there is a Tornado and we all have to run to the only safe place in the entire community, the basement o the Wheel.......we'll all die.......
